The Georgia Tech International Spouses' Group is a space for spouses, partners, and families of international Georgia Tech graduate students who are looking for a community in Atlanta. Many of the members of our group have moved to Atlanta with their partner who may be interning, doing a fellowship, or working on a Master's, PhD, or other degree at Tech.
The spouse group is a great place to meet other spouses, fellowship, and learn more about Georgia Tech, the surrounding Atlanta area, American culture, and one another!
We meet on Mondays in the Tenth and Home Graduate Housing Activity Room from 3:00pm - 4:30pm.
Frequently Asked Questions
The purpose of the group is for people to meet one another, make new friends, and find support on Georgia Tech's campus. We have members who have only been in Atlanta for a couple of weeks to those who have been here for a couple of years, so there's a huge range of experiences and we always love to see new faces.
Often times we're spending our Mondays sharing with one another, but we also have informational presentations from different offices on campus. We also like to celebrate holidays together with an occassional potluck or activity.
IS THIS GROUP ONLY FOR WOMEN?
Nope! We welcome all genders, but currently all of our members happen to be women.
We do not discriminate on the basis of race, nationality, gender, age, ability, or sexual orientation.
CAN I BRING MY CHILDREN?
Yes! The Tenth and Home Graduate Housing Activity Room has a place where children can play, however, be aware that some activities may not be suitable for children. You are also responsible for your own child as this is not a daycare service.
CAN I STOP BY? DO I HAVE TO STAY THE ENTIRE TIME?
Stop by when you can! We officially start meeting at 3pm, but the group is not a class. We'd like for you to stay as long as you can so you can meet people and we can get to know you.
Sometimes we have campus partners presenting information about resources on campus, so we'd like everyone to show up before they share so you don't miss any information and there are fewer interruptions throughout.
DO YOU HELP WITH VISAS AND OTHER QUESTIONS ABOUT MOVING TO AMERICA?
Unfortunately, the staff is not very familiar with issues pertaining to visas, but because almost all of the members have personal experience with visas, the group is a great resource for these questions. The same applies to questions about finding a place to live, getting a driver's license, finding movers, etc.
The Office of International Education is very knowledgable and can help with visa questions.
